Bio
Sold-out shows have become a norm for Camerata wherever they perform.
Camerata Vocal Group was founded in 1986 in Minsk. The group consists of seven vocalists with voices ranging from soprano to bass.
When you hear Camerata performing live, you get an impression that you stand in front of a large symphony orchestra which is composed of the most exotic instruments.
Camerata makes musical works of art without using any musical instruments. The sounds are created with their own voices, which gives the audience the effect of copresence in the musical reality.
"Camerata is unique in using their voices» («Der Landbote», Winterthur).
"With their vocal range, charming intonations and virtuoso vocals, Camerata replaces the whole orchestra with their voices and awakens the mystical musical reality» («Nürnberger Nachrichten», Regional daily newspaper). Indeed, they make sounds come alive, and the audience is invited to visualize the sound experience. Suddenly, you realize that the sound is observable and the images can live on stage.
Initially, the group's repertoire included classic, baroque, spirituals, and Belarusian modern music compositions. In autumn 1988 the band performed jazz set (Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Chick Corea) at the Paneveys International Festival of Choirs, where they were a big success.
Today, the group's repertoire consists mainly of their own music which is characterized by Slavic folk music, natural harmonies and the authentic modes. The repertoire also includes classical music pieces, orthodox music, and jazz. Camerata mixes the ideas both from traditional and modern music making the sound original and memorable.
Camerata’s performances have great success all over the world: Germany, USA, Norway, Turkey, China, Iran, Italy, Holland, Hungary, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Canada, Russia, Ukraine.
In summer 1999, the Norwegian press named Camerata "The Vocal Sensation". Since then, Camerata participated in many international festivals, performed on stage with Ray Charles, Bobby McFerrin, Avishai Cohen, Al Di Meola, Nils Landgren, Charlie Haden Quartet, The London Quartet, The Real Group, The Hillard Ensemble, Enver İzmaylov, Stanley Jordan.
Camerata released five studio albums.
In 1997 - 2006 the group held the International Festival "Camerata Invites Friends" in Minsk.
Each show of Camerata is accompanied by theatrical background. The vocalists illustrate musical dramaturgy and rhythm with choreographic performance. Sometimes elements of mysterious performance resemble truly shamanic rituals.
"Only a few bands can create a new sound, and Camerata is one of them. Their arrangements are the vocal symphonies and great sound.» (Don Gooding, Mainely A Cappella, USA)
It can be said with confidence that Camerata’s unique sound is guaranteed to attract attention of the audience.
