Short Biography...
BITĖS was established in the summer of 1998, the same year as a mini demo album SMĖLIO NAMAI was recorded.
Initial sudetis:Šarūnas Janutėnas (guitar, vocals);
Deividas Nutautas (guitar, vocals);
Gediminas Andriškevičius (base guitar);
Skirmantas Kunevičius (drums).
After the break of this crew, around year 2000, the Band was playing with different musicians, until finally the current crew formed:Alvydas Mačiulskas (saxophone, pi-ano, vocals, mouthorgan);
Deividas Nutautas (guitar, vocals);
Gediminas Andriškevičius (base guitar, vocals);
Laurynas Šarkinas (drums, vocals, percussion).
The Band has played in almost all live music clubs & festivals in Lithuania, giving cheerfull and entertaining shows and concurring hearts of the most of the audience. The Band has also given gigs in Germany, Holand, Poland, Latvia and Russia.
In the year 2005 BITĖS signed publishing agreement with the company ZONA RE-CORDS and released their debutant album ZOOM.
Right now BITĖS are recording they new album.

Bitės, who play a groovy brand of jazzy funk with hip hop influences (coming close to the irresistible jazz hop sound of the legendary Cantaloop by US3), is a highlight of the Lithuanian live music scene. Their lyrics, some in Lithuanian and some in English, are infused with a good sense of humour, making this music even funkier. A couple of Bitės’ members also play in Saulės Kliošas, another famous jazzy band known for its energetic live performances in youth-filled jazz clubs and cafes. The name of Bitės (translated as The Bees) suggests that their music is buzzing as a beehive on a sultry summer day, though certainly not as dangerous.

The initial idea, already in 2003, was to record the album live, in a couple of days, in this way keeping the authentic sound of BITĖS. However, while generating ideas, it appeared that we’re able to do an interesting, very different and eclectic record where every song would be different by its mood, arrangement, instrumentation. A new idea was born – to record a chorus of 5-6 year old children, a DJ, also to use loops and such instruments as lute, trombone, trumpet and piano. Having such noble goals ahead, it took us 2 (!) years to make a record. You can find one of the first songs of the band in the album, such as JEI TAU REIKIA and NUO MERGAITĖS NEŠVARIOS, which were created in the previous millenium.

SMĖLIO NAMAI (Sand House) – is the first Demo of the Band, that was released in-the dark 1998, when besides existing ”bees” Deiviukas and Gedukas, also Skirman-tas Kunevičius (the Drums) and Šarūnas Janutėnas (quitar and vocals) were playing in the band. The record was done in the loft of Vilniaus Gedimino Technikos Univer-siteto, where at that time our studio was located. A Norwegian Sigmund Ruud, a fan and a friend of BITĖS, brought his professional 24 channell desk and in 5 hours 3 songs were recorded. The purpose of the Demo was purely informative and historical. Today only 10 original CD-Rs are left.

“Bitės” groja užkrečiantį fanką su džiazo ir hiphopo elementais (kuris primena legendinio “US3” hito “Cantaloop” džiazhopo skambesį) ir yra vieni įdomiausių Lietuvos gyvos muzikos scenos atstovų. Jų dainų tekstai, dainuojami / repuojami lietuviškai ir angliškai, yra kupini gero humoro, kuris įžiebia muzikoje dar daugiau kibirkščių. Keli “Bičių” nariai taip pat groja “Saulės Klioše” - kitoje džiazuojančioje grupėje, garsėjančioje savo energija trykštančiais gyvais pasirodymais jaunimo perpildytuose džiazo klubuose ir kavinėse. “Bičių” pavadinimas tarsi perspėja, kad jų muzika yra linksma ir gyvybinga kaip avilys kaitrią dieną, bet tikrai ne tokia grėsminga.
Grupė BITĖS susikūrė 1998 metų vasarą, tais pačiais metais įrašė mini demo albumą SMĖLIO NAMAI.

Grupė koncertavo beveik visuose Vilniaus gyvos muzikos klubuose bei daugelyje Lietuvos miestų (Šiauliai, Alytus, Utena, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Biržai...), savo linksmais TEATRALIŠKAIS ŠOU užkariaudami ne vieno klausytojo (-os) širdį.
Grupė dalyvavo festivaliuose:
Blogiausių grupių festivalis; Mama aš dar dainuosiu; Kultūros tvartas; Armada; Madų korida; Vilniaus dienos; Šiaulių jazz; Rumshk; Matematikų ir informatikų dienos - MIDI;

Latvijos Radijos SVH prestižiniuose muzikiniuose apdovanojimuose.
Taip pat koncertavo Latvijoje, Vokietijoje bei Olandijoje.
