Welcome to the 32nd International Hanseatic Days!
Welcome to the 32nd International Hanseatic Days!
Lüneburg looks back on a long Hanseatic tradition. When we celebrate the Hanseatic Days here June 28 through July 1, 2012, it will have been 600 years since Lüneburg last welcomed Hanseatic emissaries inside of the city walls. Back then, 23 Hanseatic cities were represented. This time we are looking forward to hosting tens of thousands of guests from more than 150 Hanseatic cities across Europe – and we are looking forward to seeing you, too.
Along with Bernd Saxe, mayor of Lübeck and chairperson of the Hanseatic League, I have had the privilege of experiencing several Hanseatic Days in recent years. Whether they were in Lippstadt (2007) or Salzwedel (200
, whether in Welikij Nowgorod, Russia (2009) or Pärnu, Estonia (2010), or the most recent Hanseatic Days in Kaunas, Lithuania - where the above photo was taken at the closing event in 2011: Each city and each Hanseatic Days develops its own, unique character, its own singular charm. But the link between the participants was evident at all of the events. This is the bond that has been firmly established over the hundreds of years of common Hanseatic history and that has been filled with life again since the tradition of the Hanseatic Days was resumed about 30 years ago.
In Lüneburg we intend to treat you to an unforgettable experience; our motto is: "Experience the Bond - Hanse: Living Links." Its significance during the Hanseatic age and the beautiful medieval buildings that have remained largely undamaged even today make Lüneburg worth the journey. Lüneburg is looking forward to welcoming you and offering you the best we have: Culture, ambience, hospitality.
We would like to invite you to get to know our city. Please come revive the Hanseatic idea with us and spread the word. We invite you to celebrate with us. Be our guests!
